If the title of this blog made you subconsciously start singing a Shinedown song from the 2000s, then good. That’s what we were going for. Anyway, it’s true. In marketing, sometimes goodbye is a second chance. Meet remarketing.
Remarketing is the practice of serving advertisements or messages to users who have previously visited or engaged with your brand online, then left. Essentially, you’re using their interactions with your brand to predict what they might be interested in next.
Remarketing is pretty simple. A user visits your website. You can then serve them Meta ads based on that visit. You’re able to create remarketing audiences through online advertising platforms like Google, Meta, TikTok and more. This lets you share your message and offers with “warmer” audiences who already know your brand. Remarketing can lead to higher-quality campaigns and better conversion rates because you’re marketing to people who have already shown interest. It’s kind of a hack, really.
Maybe someone reads your blog, “Top 10 Golf Club Sets on the Market.” Well, now you can take that visitor and serve them ads for your fancy new golf set (maybe it’s on sale now). That’s a marketing match made in heaven. Remarketing is much easier than finding a needle in a haystack. It’s like finding a needle in a haystack after already using a metal detector. You almost know exactly where it is; you just haven’t grabbed it yet.
The message someone sees from you the second time should build off that initial interaction. If they showed interest in golf clubs, show them golf clubs. If they spent time looking at a particular service, your next ad can focus on that service. The more relevant the message, the better your chance of earning that conversion.
We’ve all had that experience where we’re looking at the Chili’s menu online and suddenly our Facebook feed is just full of Chili’s ads…right? That’s remarketing at work. At the same time, remarketing shouldn’t be about bombarding users with the same ad over and over again. That can run people off. Intentional advertising strategies built around user behavior are where remarketing campaigns can become true cash cows.
