Everything That Shines: What We Love This December

From watching someone open the perfect gift to sneaking in an few extra cookies, December really shines.

We know there’s a lot to do this time of year, and it can get hectic. But it’s also a bit of a glow-fest in December if you take a moment to enjoy it. It’s time to get rolling with a warm, glimmering vibe that celebrates everything that shines in December. Here are ten of our favorites:

An Excuse to Sip Hot Cocoa All Day: Whether you love to top your hot chocolate with a few marshmallows or some whipped cream, or maybe a fun flavor like peppermint, December is a good time for keeping warm with a mug of sweet coziness.

Sipping hot cocoa with friends is a special December treat.

Embracing Hygge: If you haven’t yet bought into the hygge trend, that Danish tradition of comfy, cozy living, December is the perfect time to try it out. It’s not just sweaters, warm drinks and sitting by the fire. It’s also a special contentment that comes with spending time with a few close friends while the cold rages outside. Invite your friends over, light a few candles and settle in for hygge happiness.

Temperature-Defying Fun: Maybe you’re part of a polar bear club, or you participate in an annual freeze-out camping trip. Or perhaps you jump at any chance to go sledding, snowboarding or engage in a snowball fight guaranteed to land plenty of hits in your face. There’s something so fun about getting out in the weather and experiencing it. You know, as long as you have a warm bath and hot soup waiting at the end.

Getting out in the cold for some sledding or a snowball fight can be a fun holiday tradition.

Movie Marathons: When you’re done sledding or jumping in an icy lake, snuggle up with a few friends to watch your favorite holiday movies…or watch the same plots play out across dozens of Hallmark movies. You just can’t help checking in each year to see if Ralphie will shoot his eye out, if Clark will get his bonus or if Betty will forgive Bob. And you’ll cry at the end of It’s a Wonderful Life, even if you’ve seen George’s friends bail him out dozens of times.

That Look: There’s a special kind of joy that comes when you’ve chosen a gift for a loved one that’s just exactly right. That look of “oh, you know me!” when they see what you’ve wrapped for them is a particularly fun part of December. You got just the right color, just the right size or you just happened to know that they would want socks with the face of their pet hedgehog on them.

Cookies, Cakes and Eggnog: Oh, the desserts of December! You might churn out cookies, batch after batch. Or maybe you have perfected old-fashioned gingerbread cake or found the one edible fruitcake recipe that exists. No matter what your favorite dessert is, it’s bound to pair well with a little rum-infused eggnog. Or, for you southerners, boiled custard (yum).

Cookies, candy and special holiday cakes are all delicious ways to celebrate the season with friends.

Holiday Lights: Get the family bundled up, pack up the cookies and milk and jump in the car to go see some holiday lights. Whether you pay to visit a local drive-through display or prefer to hunt down the best neighborhoods in your area, holiday lights are a sure way to make your December extra enjoyable.

Lazy Mornings: Buttermilk pancakes. Blueberry muffins. Coffee by the fire. A good book or a long conversation. The holidays often come with a break from work and school, which is the perfect time to sleep in a little, linger over a big breakfast, then play some Scrabble by the fire.

Time to Connect: Maybe you get to see your childhood best friend just once a year when she comes into town for Christmas with her folks. Or your rowdy family game of charades is the highlight of the holiday season. Maybe you have an annual visit to the nursing home to deliver cookies and sing a few carols. The holidays often present opportunities to visit with friends and family that are otherwise sparse throughout the year.

Seeing old friends for a visit or getting the whole family together for a round of charades are fun ways to spend a holiday evening.

A Year in Review: One of the best parts of December is simply practicing gratitude for the blessings of that year. At SJC Marketing, our team is just like everyone else. You can get caught up in the daily frustrations or setbacks, but it’s great to take a step back and appreciate the good things that have happened. A few moments SJC is celebrating from 2021:

  • We added two new team members. Welcome to Lindsay Palmer, our Web Designer and Justin Grubb, our account manager.
  • In a hard time for many businesses, we were thankful to add many new clients this year.
  • We enjoyed many opportunities to work alongside local nonprofits, with some of our team serving as board members and others pitching in other areas of volunteer work in a variety of capacities.

Sure, there are a few things that make December tricky, like holiday traffic, the race to get everything wrapped and a few events you’d really rather not attend. But there’s so much to enjoy, so much that makes December shine.

We hope you’re having a fun December, enjoying seasonal treats and celebrations with family and friends. When the last tinsel has been tucked away, let’s talk about how to make your brand shine all year long. Contact us at SJC Marketing.
