3 Things You Should Know About Your Website Design

Your website design may be the part of your branding that’s most memorable to your audience.

In a recent survey by Squarespace, the findings demonstrate the importance of website design. The survey included 2,000 adults and was conducted in an effort to understand the role websites play and how memorable they are to visitors.

Here are three things you need to know:

Online Presence is Tops: Among Millennials and Gen Z respondents, having an online presence was at the top of the priority list. More than half of Gen Z and Millennials (60% and 62%, respectively) believed that how you present yourself online is even more important than how you are perceived in person.

It’s Potent: Across the respondents, it was found that the color of a website design was easier to remember than the color of someone’s eyes. This held true across age groups, with 49% remembering websites over eye color. It was most pronounced among Millennials, at 71% of respondents.

It’s Categorized as Important: The survey found that 43% of Gen Z respondents were more likely to rattle off the last website they visited than to be able to remember their partner’s social security number or their partner’s birthday.

If you’re been putting an investment in a website design that’s outdated or simply doesn’t capture your brand message, these numbers should give you pause. If you’re thinking about a change, here are a few questions that can help you decide if it’s time:

  • Does my website design effectively and consistently tell my brand story?
  • Is it the hub of my marketing strategy, proactively designed to improve search engine optimization and turn visitors into customers?
  • Is it optimized for mobile?
  • What’s my load speed?

These are just a few ways to measure whether it may be time to consider an investment in your website. If you find that your website is lacking in any of these areas, it’s likely costing you opportunities. Even a slow load speed due to problems with how your images or video are displayed can be surprisingly effective at redirecting your visitors to a competitor’s page.
