As the cold winter months drag on, it’s not uncommon for the season to take a toll on your health and wellness. The days are shorter, it’s dark and cold, and you might find yourself feeling sluggish. And there’s only so much Netflix you can watch…we know…we’ve been there. But with a few good habits, you can stay energized and motivated throughout the season.

So, grab your coffee and check out these wellness tips to keep you feeling your best, no matter how the Earth is tilted.

  1. Stay Active: Physical exercise helps keep you energized, happy and strong. Even if it’s just shoveling snow or going for a short walk, a little movement goes a long way.
  2. Prioritize Nutrition: We get it, the holiday season can wreak havoc on your diet. But prioritizing nutritious, eating in moderation and staying hydrated can keep you feeling great, even when the weather takes a turn.
  3. Get Enough Sleep: Aim for 7-9 hours each night. Your body needs rest to stay warm, fight off illness, and keep your energy up.
  4. Focus on Self-Care and Mental Wellness: Winter can lead to isolation, so it’s crucial to prioritize your family and friends. Make time for sunlight and engage in hobbies or activities you love.
  5. Wash Your Hands: It might sound basic, but it’s true—and indoor gatherings mean more germs. Do your part by washing your hands often to avoid getting sick.
  6. Keep Your Mind Engaged: Mind-numbing TV binging can be fun, but don’t neglect your brain. Try reading, doing a puzzle, or engaging in something creative to stay sharp and stimulated.

The dark, chilly days can make it hard to find the motivation to do much of anything. That’s why it’s so important to stay active, connected and rested during the cold winter months. While this isn’t an exhaustive list, it’s a great place to start. Rest assured; spring will be here before you know it. Until then, do what you can to stay happy and healthy—even if you’re only coming down with a bad case of cabin fever.
