You may have heard of the global movement on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving known as GivingTuesday. Individuals and corporations have a highlighted opportunity to celebrate generosity and donate to nonprofit organizations that align with their interests or passions.

Celebrate GivingTuesday with a gift or volunteer hours at a local organization.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 at the 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City as a day to encourage people to do good. In the last 11 years, it has expanded to a global movement that supports giving to around 10 million nonprofits worldwide.

SJC Marketing works with several nonprofit organizations and we know the importance of every piece of clothing, food item, hour volunteered and dollar donated. Every form of giving makes a difference, not only to the organization but also to our own community. So, if you are looking for a way to give this GivingTuesday there are many nonprofit organizations in our community happy to receive your generosity.  Here are just a few that we have the privilege of working with and how you can help.

Habitat for Humanity

St. Joseph Habitat for Humanity is an organization that revitalizes homes and neighborhoods to provide affordable housing for those in need. One way to give is to make a donation on their website, https://stjoehabitat.org/ or you can sign up to be a volunteer. There are a variety of projects that could use your assistance and opportunities to volunteer vary from new home construction to landscaping to helping at the ReStore. You can also donate unwanted new and gently used cabinets, furniture, appliances and building materials to the ReStore.

Pivotal Point Transitional Housing

Pivotal Point Transitional Housing helps families and individuals overcome homelessness and obtain self-sufficiency through case management, budgeting and life skills training. There are so many ways to give to Pivotal Point or support residents in their efforts to turn their lives around. You can give a direct donation at http://pivotalpointstjoseph.org/ or sign up to be a volunteer. If you are passionate about a specific life skill, you can volunteer to teach a class. Jump in to work some shifts at the Thrift Shoppe or help around the apartments in different capacities. They have two pantries that can always use donations or you can donate your new or gently used items to the Thrift Shoppe. To learn more about these options, follow them on social media: https://www.facebook.com/PivotalPointThriftShoppe.

Sisters of Solace

Sisters of Solace is an organization that helps bring healing to women who are survivors of trauma and addiction. To support Sisters of Solace this season, make a donation on their website at https://sosstjoe.org/. You can also volunteer in many different capacities such as helping with home repairs, cooking meals, mentoring or tutoring. You can also shop their wish list on Amazon for everyday needed items. The organization also raises funds by selling amazing candles and gift sets. St. Joseph Youth Alliance

St. Joseph Youth Alliance is a nonprofit organization that focuses on issues affecting the youth in the community. Through collaboration between community-wide organizations, Youth Alliance develops programs and services to equip young people for a bright future. You can give directly through their website https://youth-alliance.org/. Volunteers assist in a variety of ways from serving on a committee to helping with scheduled events or service projects. Check out the website to learn about all of the ways to get involved or follow them on Facebook to learn more about Youth Alliance: https://www.facebook.com/stjosephyouthalliance/.

Those are just a few organizations you can support and there are many more in our community that would benefit from your gift.

We at SJC Marketing encourage you to support an organization on GivingTuesday, but more than anything, be an advocate for positive change in our community by getting involved in a local organization.
