A local tradition becomes even more enriching as the 2nd Annual BFIT CrossFit Apple Blossom 5K gears up for action. The Apple Blossom Parade is a St. Joseph tradition dating back to 1924, celebrated every spring. With colorful floats, marching bands, dazzling dancers and enough candy to ensure local dentists stay gainfully employed, the parade is always a seasonal favorite across the region. And this year, for the second time, the festivities kick off with a cardiovascular competition to benefit a local nonprofit in our community.

The first annual BFIT CrossFit Apple Blossom 5K was a huge success, so it made perfect sense to bring it back for another year! The local race supports Sisters of Solace, a nonprofit dedicated to helping women survivors of trauma and addiction who may not have a safe place to call home. They provide life-changing support, empowering women to rebuild their lives, and proceeds from the race go directly to furthering their mission. So, when you participate, you’re not just running for fitness—you’re running with purpose, supporting women in need in our community, and contributing to positive change.

The 5K offers a variety of format options. Participants can walk or run individually, or opt for the tandem run, where two people are tethered together. There’s also the “burden run,” where teams take on the challenge of running (or walking) while carrying a heavy sandbag or kettlebell—infusing a bit of that CrossFit spirit. For those not interested in running, the event’s focus is all about community, fun, and supporting a great cause, with something for everyone to enjoy.

The race begins at the St. Joseph Aquatic Center parking lot, heads up Noyes to Frederick, and finishes along the Apple Blossom Parade route, cheered on by crowds of spectators and candy-craving kids. It’s a day to come together, celebrate, and support a great cause. The race takes place the morning of May 3rd, so come out and cheer on those supporting our community! And for those of you running… good luck!
