Last week marked back to school for many local schools. That means the sound of zippers closing, lunchboxes snapping shut and school buses rumbling down the street. For kids, it meant the return of early mornings, classroom routines, recess and the excitement of seeing friends they may have missed all summer long. For parents, it meant the bittersweet, chaotic rhythm of back-to-school season started.
There’s something about this time of year that feels like a reset. The notebooks are crisp and blank, the pencils are sharp and the possibilities feel endless. New lessons to learn, new faces to meet, new routines to settle into. It’s the kind of feeling that’s both exciting and a little sad in the best way, full of hope and a hint of nostalgia.
Some parents may have sent their child off to kindergarten for the very first time, while others are trying to figure out how to slow down their teen’s last year of high school. Some kids were thrilled to go back to school, some nervous and many a little bit of both. Meeting new teachers, sitting in classrooms with unfamiliar faces, it can all feel like a lot. But in time, these small, everyday moments become the big memories we hold onto and cherish for years.
So, whether the first day back to school included a heartfelt goodbye at the bus stop, a tearful drop-off or just a scroll through first-day photos over your morning coffee, take a second to commit it all to memory. This season doesn’t last forever and that’s what makes it special. Here’s to new backpacks, earlier alarms, school-night dinners, hallway friendships and last-minute permission slips.
Thanks to all our teachers in all the schools in our area for their dedication and hard work. Good luck to every student, parent and educator as this new school year is under way!
