Monday Morning Coffee: A Season of Giving & Ways to Give Back

It’s finally November, and with it comes the spirit of giving. Yes, pumpkin spice lattes, football games, apple cider and chilly fall weather are part of the season, too. But with Thanksgiving quickly approaching, it’s also a time to reflect on what we’re thankful for and how we can give back to our community.

The best part? Giving back doesn’t require a grand gesture. Even the smallest acts of kindness can have a lasting impact. Luckily, many local organizations are making a difference in our communities, and there are plenty of ways to support their missions this season. Here are a few:

Youth Alliance

Youth Alliance works to support children, youth and families throughout our region through various programs focused on prevention, education and positive youth development. Community members can explore volunteer opportunities, support youth-focused initiatives or make a donation to help the organization continue serving local families.

Second Harvest Community Food Bank

With the holidays approaching, helping families put food on the table is even more meaningful. Second Harvest Community Food Bank works to fight hunger throughout Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas. Volunteers can help sort and pack food, assist with distribution efforts or participate in local food drives.

Sisters of Solace

Sisters of Solace provides a supportive community for women working to overcome trauma, addiction and other life challenges. Community members can support its mission by volunteering, purchasing needed items from its Amazon wish list or supporting the Solace Market and Coffee Shop. Every contribution received helps women in their program rebuild their lives.

Every Little Bit Makes a Difference

Whether you’re donating a few canned food items, shopping at a nonprofit’s gift shop or spending an afternoon volunteering, there are plenty of ways to support local organizations. You can even encourage friends and family to join you for a fun outing.

So, as we enter this season of giving and gratitude, consider finding a cause that resonates with you. So many incredible organizations right here in St. Joseph are dedicated to making a difference, and your generosity can help them continue their valuable work. A little kindness can go a long way this November.
